Milk Mama 101

Like all babies, I was born to breastfeed.  I entered this world knowing exactly what I wanted and Mama was there to provide for me.

How did she know what to do?  She took a class – Breastfeeding Essentials – from a Certified Lactation Counselor.  In this class Mama learned the importance of breastfeeding, how to latch me properly and many other helpful tips and tricks to successful nursing.  This class, along with a postpartum private session, was an invaluable resource that helped Mama be the best breastfeeding mom she could be!

Breastfeeding Essentials is taught by Jenn Sullivan, CLC and owner of Waddle n Swaddle.   With over three years of lactation teaching experience and having nursed her own two children, she is a wealth of information.

This class can be taken any time during pregnancy and Mama should definitely bring Dada.   He will be able to ask questions and fully understand his role as the support person.  (Mama will need a lot of support and encouragement!)

Can’t make it to a class?  Already breastfeeding but need some help?  Jenn is available for private classes and appointments both in store or in home.  Check out her website for further details.  www.waddlenswaddle.com

Milk Mama Must-Have

Angel Baby

In the beginning, I was not the best at latching.  I just couldn’t get the hang of it, which left Mama’s nipples cracked and sore.  Luckily, Mama was prepared.  She applied Earth Mama Angel Baby Natural Nipple Butter (say that 5 times fast) after every nursing to heal the damage.   And it worked like a charm!  Mama was back to normal in no time and with continued use, helped prevent further damage.   (She wants me to tell the story about how I used to bite her when I was teething and the nipple butter saved the day again.  But I don’t have any idea what she is talking about ;))

EMAB Natural Nipple Butter has everything you want and nothing you don’t!  It is organic, vegan, cruelty free, non-toxic, and lanolin free.  Need I say more?  So have Mama apply it after every feeding, before and after she showers, and any time she feels the need.  It doesn’t need to be washed or wiped off before the feeding (trust me, I didn’t even notice, I just wanted the MILK).

So go out and get your Mama some today! She will thank you!

Tips from a pro:

Natural Nipple Butter, the breast stuff on earth!

*Mama loved this nipple butter so much, she had 4 jars open at one time! (One in the diaper bag, one on the night stand, one in the nursing pillow pocket and one in the nursing cover!

*Like to suck your thumb?  It is getting all red and dry during these cold winter months?  Have Mama apply some nipple butter at nighttime to heal the damage and keep it soft!

Eat in Peace

Sometimes I just want to have a little milk without any distractions. Is that too much to ask?

Mama has found an easy solution, the Bebe au Lait nursing cover.  It is a soft cotton ‘apron’ that Mama puts on over her head to shield me from the world.   This privacy helps me concentrate on enjoying my milk!  One feature I have to note is the rigid neckline, which makes it possible for me to see Mama while I nurse.  Who could ask for anything more?!

This must have nursing accessory comes in wonderful, Mama approved, patterns.  And every one is machine washable (so Mama never gets mad when I spit up on it or try to eat it)!   So make sure this is in every nursling’s diaper bag!

Tip from the pro:  Mama has two of them, one is always in the diaper bag and the other is in the car.  That way no matter where we are,  she can always keep me focused on my MILK!!!   **** And use the terry cloth corner pocket to hold your nipple butter!!!
